College baseball bragging rights in the city currently belong to Central Christian College, which swept McPherson College in a twinbill on Tuesday at Light Capital Diamond.

Central won the first game 6-2, as the Tigers received three RBIs from Chance Carney. A five-run fourth inning extended CCC’s lead to six before the Bulldogs avoided the shutout on a two-run homer in the seventh by Kyle McDonald.

Caleb Gorman contributed three hits for the Tigers, who also received two from Ian Eshelman and Christian Herbig. McDonald and John Lauts had two hits apiece for Mac.

Chase Dean was sharp on the mound for CCC, scattering seven hits and walking only one, while fanning six. Treyton DeVore took the loss.

The second game was well played, with CCC outlasting the Bulldogs 3-2 behind the three-hit pitching of four hurlers. Keaton Snyder went four innings, with Andrew Hightower, Doug Gove and Jhon Peralta pitching three perfect innings of relief with a frame each. Jesse Correll took the loss.

Taylor Bauman drove in two runs for the Tigers, who had only five hits of their own.

The Tigers are now 9-39 and have a week off before hosting Sterling on April 21 for Senior Night. Mac is 8-36 and hosts nationally ranked Tabor on Saturday.
