OTTAWA — Bethany College and Ottawa University are having practically identical baseball seasons.
So it’s no wonder the teams split a KCAC twinbill on Thursday.
Bethany pushed across a run in the top of the seventh inning to win Game 1, 3-2. Ottawa scored a run in the bottom of the seventh in Game 2 for a 6-5 victory, that after the Swedes had scored three in the top of the inning to tie the game.
Both teams are now 11-11 in the KCAC. OU is 23-21 overall and Bethany is 20-22.
Jake Ross’ sac fly won the first game for the Swedes as he drove in Sammuel Ramirez with the deciding run. Clayton Cozzitorto was the winner, going the distance.
Kaylem Quinn’s single in the bottom of the seventh allowed the Braves to win Game 2 in dramatic, walk-off fashion.
Ross had a great day for Bethany by going 5 for 7 in the two games with four RBIs. Ramirez had three hits and scored two runs.
McPherson High graduate Aaron Marshall was 1 for 4 on the day with a double as the Swedes were careful in pitching to him. Marshall is hitting .272 for the Braves, but leads the KCAC in home runs with 11.
The two teams hook up again Saturday, weather permitting, in Lindsborg. First pitch is 2 p.m.
