ANDALE — Just when McPherson High’s softball team was starting to gain traction with a four-game winning streak, it slipped up on Monday with a pair of losses to Andale-Garden Plain.
The Bullpups fell to 8-6 on the season.
“Their pitching kept us off balance at the plate. They threw a lot of off-speed change-ups and we did not adjust well to those,” MHS coach Danica Fitzmorris said. “We still need to figure out how to stay defensively consistent. We have one bad inning that turns the game around.”
The Indians used back-to-back five-run innings to roll to an 11-4 victory in the opener, spiked by four MHS errors.
Jasmine Wann clouted a homer and drove in three runs for the Bullpups, while Bailea Crist crushed a triple, double and single.
Madison Hoffman took the loss, though only five of the 10 runs she allowed were earned. Elle Schrag finished up.
The Bullpups jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning of the second game, but it was all Andale-Garden Plain after that as it used a three-run fifth inning to spark a 4-2 win.
MHS again was shoddy in the field with four errors. It also struggled at the plate with just four hits. Hannah Marshall drove in both runs with a double. Schrag took the loss, but only one of the runs she allowed was earned as MHS continued its mystifying defensive execution.
MHS goes to El Dorado on Thursday.
There were no JV games as MHS was short of players due to injuries.
