Vikes fall twice in baseball twinbill

HALSTEAD — Smoky Valley’s baseball team is now 3-7 after losing a pair of games to Halstead on Tuesday as the Vikings reached the halfway point of their schedule.

The Dragons fended off Smoky Valley in Game 1, as the Vikings scored five runs in the sixth inning to make it interesting, but the result was a 10-9 loss.

Andrew McClure and Brett Heitschmidt had two hits apiece for Smoky, while Ty Campbell and Zach Able had doubles. Tim Ruble took the loss.

Halstead scored in every inning of Game 2 for a 12-2 decision. Four runs in the second was the big inning.

Kirk Barnes had two hits for the Vikes. Ryan Weldy was Smoky’s starting pitcher.

The Vikings are home Friday against Hoisington.
