LINDSBORG — Bethany College wrestling coach Cody Garcia is realizing he’s got a gold mine right in his own back yard.
The Swedes, who have reaped dividends from former Smoky Valley state champion Trevor Whittaker, have dipped into the Viking pool again with the signing of Brandon Lawson-Archuleta.
He was a four-year varsity wrestler for the Vikings and also played football all four years.
Lawson-Archuleta took fourth in the state this year in his weight class.
He recently was inducted into the National Honor Society and volunteered for more than 40 hours at the Salina Regional Health Center. He was a team captain in football and spent time volunteering at the sub-districts in Lindsborg. Lawson-Archuleta also has been an altar server at St. Bridgett's Church in Lindsborg.
"Brandon is a great fit for our team and a fit for Bethany,” Garcia said. “He has an incredible work ethic and has vastly improved each year because of that commitment. These qualities describe Brandon so well and we fully expect him to continue to bring that same intensity and determination to the next level in order to reach the goals he has set. This is the second hometown kid we have brought on and we are honored to be along for the journey as he continues to be a positive force and representation of this town.”
Lawson-Archuleta is the son of Jason and Sarah Archuleta. He has a 3.75 high school grade point average, and will major in biology.
