McPherson High’s JV track and field teams hosted an invitational on Thursday and the boys parlayed a strong performance in the field events to earn a second-place overall finish.

MHS tallied 111 points to trail only Newton, which scored 152 1/2. There were nine teams in all.

Andric McGill won both the high jump and long jump to lead the way. Dylan Baldwin added a championship in the javelin. The discus was a strong event as MHS had four of the top six marks.

The Bullpup girls took third with 87 points, ranking behind Goddard (187) and Newton (108). Their points came in chunks, as Mandi Cooks won three events (high jump, javelin and long jump), while also taking firsts were Morgan Howard (100 hurdles), Ciera Beasley (1,600) and Britney Brooks (400).
