HALSTEAD — Hesston High’s track and field teams went up against some of their toughest competition of the year on Friday in the Conrad Nightingale Invitational, hosted by Halstead.

The Swather girls scored 90 points to outlast Sedgwick for the title as the Cardinals tallied 69. There were 14 teams in the field.

Hesston had a passel of Top 3 finishes, but only its 4 x 400 relay team of Kylie Brenneman, Jessanna Nebel, Taylor Valdez and Alaina Dunlavy took first. The Swathers had four second-place finishes and four thirds.

The Hesston boys were fourth, despite the fact star jumper Justin Smith doubled in the triple and long jumps, while Austin Bollinger won the 800. The Swathers’ 4 x 800 relay team of Bollinger, Alex Lemus, Jonathan Weber and Zach Esau also triumphed.

Berean Academy outlasted Halstead 74-72 for the win, while Pratt nipped Hesston by two, 63-61, for third.
