WICHITA — McPherson High’s consistency enabled it to finish in second place on Saturday in the Wichita Collegiate Tournament of Champions, which was chockfull of elite Class 6A, 5A, 4A and 3-2-1A tennis teams.
MHS scored 98 points to trail only Wichita Collegiate, the No. 2 team in Class 3-2-1A. The Spartans scored 108 points.
Independence, which is ranked No. 1 in Class 4A and a spot ahead of the Bullpups, finished in third with 94. Maize (86) and Newton (73) rounded out the Top 5. Topeka Hayden, which is ranked a spot behind MHS in 4A, was sixth with 72 points.
There were 16 teams in all.
The MHS all-freshman duo of Andrew Snell and Nolan Schrader went 4-1 for third place in doubles, while Kento Aizawa and Luke Williams were 2-3 for eighth.
In singles, Kaden Stewart was 4-1 for ninth, one spot ahead of Gallagher Martin, who was 3-2.
