DERBY — Just once McPherson High’s golf team would like to have a nice day for a tournament.

Cold-and-windy conditions again greeted golfers Monday in the Derby Invitational as the Bullpups took third place with a 353, trailing host Derby (344) and Arkansas City (347).

There were 10 teams in all.

The Bullpups’ Jacob Lackey again medaled, taking the 10th spot with an 87. Only two golfers broke 80, both with 79s.

Kaden Warren was just outside the Top 10 with an 88. Other Bullpup scores were Drew Pyle (89), Sam Minnick (89) and CJ Steiner (91).

The Bullpups compete in the Hutchinson All-Day Tournament on Friday at Carey Park, an event that annually draws 36 teams as it’s regarded as the biggest high school tournament in the country.
