Hesston jumping ace Smith doubles up

LYONS — Hesston High’s jumping standout Justin Smith doubled in his specialty events during Tuesday’s Lyons Invitational.

Smith won the long jump and triple jump to help the Swathers score 110 1/2 points for third. Hesston did not have its full complement of performers as it brought a partial team. Sterling won the meet with 164 points.

Reese Nebel won the 300 hurdles and Scott Duerksen captured the high jump.

The Swather girls, also with a partial team, scored 65 points for fifth. Sterling’s 189 points were tops. The top Hesston finishes were seconds by Lydia Enge in the discus and Kailey Ince in the high jump.
