United Way of McPherson County and McPherson Letter Carriers are partnering for the nation’s largest single-day food drive. This year marks the 22nd anniversary of “Stamp Out Hunger,” which promotes the collection and delivering of donations to food banks nationwide.
McPherson residents are encouraged to participate in local efforts by leaving non-perishable food donations in a bag near their mailboxes on Saturday, May 9, by 9 a.m. Blue collection bags will be provided by Kansas Food Bank and distributed by letter carriers prior to the food drive. Food items will be retrieved by United Way volunteers. Suggested donations include canned meats, canned soup, juice, pasta, canned fruits and vegetables, cereal and rice. Expired food items and glass containers should be avoided.
“Stamp Out Hunger” provides an annual boost to the McPherson County Food Bank. There is great demand for food items during the summer months as children are out of school and do not have access to school meal programs.
