LINDSBORG — Bethany College women’s basketball coach Brett Morehouse is searching from coast to coast for new players.

Akyva Van, of Chicago, is the latest recruit for the Swedes.

Van, a guard from Lincoln Park High School, earned the Improvement Achievement Award, was voted Most Improved Player and also the team’s Most Valuable Player. She was a team captain.

"We are very pleased to announce the signing of Akyva Van,” Morehouse said. “Akyva is another member of the 2015 recruiting class with a solid academic background and a strong desire to continue working on her development as a person and a player. She is an aggressive defender and we think she can develop into a productive player at this level due to her ability to play at the point and on the wing. I know that Akyva is excited to be joining the Bethany family and we look forward to working with her over the next four years."

She is the daughter of Derek and Tracey Van and plans to study Athletic Training. She has a 3.4 GPA.
