Lackey top soph at Hutch Invite

HUTCHINSON — McPherson High’s Jacob Lackey earned sophomore medalist honors during Friday’s Hutchinson Invitational Golf Tournament at Carey Park.

Lackey, who was 1-over-par through 12 holes, finished with a 75 to be the No. 1 sophomore in the field. Overall, Lackey was 14th.

Other MHS scores were Casey Cheek (88), CJ Steiner (89), Kaden Warren (93) and Sam Minnick (99). Teams are allowed only five golfers instead of the customary six as there are 34 teams in the field.

Washburn Rural, led by medalist and future Kansas State Wildcat Andrew Beckler with a 68, won the team title with a blistering 295. MHS was 25th with 345.

Next MHS action is Thursday at Winfield.
