NICKERSON — Former Inman High football coach Mike Vernon is back in the area.
Vernon, who engineered a two-year turnaround at Inman from 2012-13, was announced on Monday as the new head coach at Nickerson High School.
Vernon guided the Teutons to a pair of 6-3 seasons during his tenure. Before he arrived, the Teutons had not had a winning season from 2004-2011, winning just 15 games in the process.
He’s going to have a huge undertaking on his hands as Nickerson has won just one game in the past two years while losing 17.
Vernon also will be in charge of strength and conditioning, something he pushed strongly while at Inman and it translated into victories on the football field.
Vernon was a one-time assistant coach at Hutchinson High under Randy Dreiling and played for the legendary Ted Kessinger at Bethany College, where he had a decorated career.
