SALINA — McPherson Middle School’s Hayes Schmid earned the Bob Ahlstedt Outstanding Player Award during Tuesday’s Salina Invitational Tennis Tournament at Oakdale Park.

The award is given to the player who combines sportsmanship with playing ability.

Schmid competed at No. 1 singles, taking second place with a 5-1 record.

MMS’ Rhett Edmonson also was a standout as he was 6-0 to take first place at No. 2 singles.

In doubles, the No. 1 team of Jackson Schrader and Drew Schrader went 4-2 for second place. The No. 2 team of Javan Childress and Spencer Whitfield also went 4-2, which garnered them third place.

The Bullpups tied for first place with Wichita Collegiate. Collegiate was deemed the champion of the 10-team event because of the tiebreaker method used.
