McPherson County All Schools Day Madathon organizer David Harger is changing the preparation time for this year's event due to the threat of severe weather later this week.
Harger said in an email obtained by Mid Kansas Online.
"We are not going to let the weather ruin Madathon for our kids, but I need your help! It looks like the weather during the day on Friday will be fine, but it’s going to be nasty until then, including predicted isolated severe weather on both Wednesday and Thursday evening. Unfortunately, this means that we will have to change the preparation schedule for Madathon:
1. All equipment will be moved from the storage location to the Madathon site on Wednesday evening. We will meet outside the McPherson Chamber of Commerce at 8:00 pm. If you have a pickup and are available, please come help. If you don’t have a pickup but are willing to help move the equipment, please come. Moving equipment shouldn’t take more than 30 minutes if we get enough help.
2. Thursday night balloon filling and other preparations are canceled. Instead, we will fill more than 1000 water balloons, stuff all the prize bags, etc. on Friday morning.
3. Because of the significant additional work load on Friday morning, I need all hands on deck! Please talk to your parents and ask anyone willing to help make Madathon successful to come to Linnea Park, the Madathon site, on Friday morning at 7:00 am. Please round up anyone who can help. I anticipate needing at least 50 volunteers to make this happen, and we should be able to finish by 8:30 or so – nobody will miss any of the All Schools Day parade or pre-parade activities.
Tell your kids that Madathon is ON, and we’re going to have a blast! We’re going to turn this rain-soaked week into the best Madathon ever!"
