Area baseball, softball regional pairings told

Moundridge will be the site of a Class 2-1A baseball regional next week that also includes most of the area teams.

The tournament will be played on Monday and Tuesday.

Little River (15-5) is the top seed and has earned a bye.

Moundridge (5-15) takes on Northern Heights (6-14) at 3 p.m. Monday, with the winner playing Little River at 2 p.m. Tuesday.

In the other half of the draw, 10-10 Inman also drew a first-round bye. Canton-Galva (5-11) plays Chase County (2-16) at 5 p.m. Monday, with the winner playing the Teutons at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

The championship game is set for 6 p.m.

The other area team with baseball, Smoky Valley, goes to Nickerson on Tuesday. The Vikings (3-15) play 11-9 Nickerson at 4 p.m. The other game pits Concordia (17-3) against Chapman (3-17) at 2 p.m.

The two winners meet for the championship of the Class 4A Division II regional at 6 p.m.

• SOFTBALL PAIRINGS — Galva’s Lynn Baldwin Memorial Park will be the site of a Class 2-1A regional that includes four area schools.

Canton-Galva (5-13) takes on Little River (4-16) at 3 p.m. Monday. The winner plays top-seed Ellinwood (17-3) at 6 p.m. Monday.

In the bottom half of the bracket, Moundridge (11-9) drew a bye as did Inman (8-12). Those two teams meet at 4:30 p.m. Monday.

The championship game is scheduled for 5 p.m. Tuesday.

In Class 4A Division II, Smoky Valley goes to Chapman.

The 6-14 Vikings take on 13-7 Chapman at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday. In the other game at 3 p.m., top-seed Clay Center (16-4) goes up against 3-17 Concordia.

The championship game will be 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Hesston plays in the two-day Class 3A regional that starts on Monday in Marion. The Swathers (4-16) take on 13-6 Marion at 6 p.m. Monday.

Hillsboro (19-1) is the top seed. In other Monday games, Sedgwick (7-11) plays Halstead (5-15) at 3 p.m., and Council Grove (10-10) goes up against Remington (4-13) at 4:30 p.m.

If Hesston wins, it would play at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday against the Council Grove-Remington winner. The championship game would follow at 6 p.m.
