EMPORIA — Hesston has both a singles entry and doubles team that will play in the semifinals of the Class 3-2-1A State Tennis Tournament on Saturday.

The Swathers’ Isaac Penner battled his way into the semifinals on Friday and will play defending champion Johnny Goodwin of Kansas City Christian, who handed Hesston’s Collin Martin a loss in the quarterfinals.

Hesston’s doubles team of Grant Dahlsten and Garrett Roth also made the Final 4. They’re matched against Kansas City Christian’s Alex Karstonis and Jackson Vanderark.

Central Plains’ top-seeded team of Layne Bieberle advanced to the semifinals and are two wins away from a perfect record.
