By virtue of its tie with Class 5A power Valley Center last Thursday, McPherson High’s girls soccer team has drawn a first-round bye for the Class 4-1A South Central Regional.

The Bullpups finished regular-season play with a 12-3-1 record, going 6-0-1 over their last seven games to earn the South Central Regional’s top seed.

The Bullpups thus need to win only one game to win their regional. They will play the winner of Tuesday’s game between Rose Hill and Buhler, which be played on the Rockets’ home pitch. Both teams are 7-9.

The winner of that game comes to McPherson for a 7 p.m. Thursday clash. MHS has played both teams this season. It blanked Rose Hill 2-0 and Buhler 4-0.

The Bullpups’ ultimate goal, of course, is to make it to the Final Four, as McPherson Stadium is the site May 29 and 30.
