STERLING — The Hesston High golf team accomplished the hard part on Monday.
Competing in the Class 3A Regional Tournament, the Swathers were able to earn one of the two team berths with a 342, 10 shots behind champion and tourney host Sterling and 12 shots ahead of third-place Trinity Catholic.
Now the Swathers come back home on Tuesday for the state tournament as the Hesston Public Golf Course is one of the better municipal layouts around.
The Swathers were led by Jack Barnhart, whose 76 was good for third on what was a tough day. Only four golfers broke 80, led by Sterling’s Nick Schissler with a 74.
Hesston’s Tanner Bachman was eighth with an 87.
Other Hesston scores were Cole Selzer (89), Jordan Roth (91), Trey Denno (98) and Andrew Frazier (100).
