KANSAS CITY — As expected, Bethany College’s men’s tennis team earned its fair share of NAIA national postseason honors befitting a team that won yet another KCAC championship and advanced to the second round of the national tournament.
Manuel Raga earned NAIA second-team All-American honors for the second year in a row, while teammate Michiel Van Den Bogaert earned his second straight honorable mention honor.
They also formed the Swedes’ No. 1 doubles team.
Raga was the KCAC Player of the Year for the second straight year. The junior from Maracay, Venezuela, was 10-1 in singles and his only loss came at nationals to Stefan Kilchhofer of Vanguard University, who was the third-ranked singles player in the country.
Raga and Van Den Bogaert were 10-4 in doubles. Van Den Bogaert, a senior from Haarlem, Netherlands, was a perfect 13-0 in singles play. He completed a decorated career, twice making first-team All-KCAC and was second team the other two years. Van Den Bogaert was also the Freshman of the Year in 2012.
"Manny and Mike both had an amazing season. They led the team on and off the court as they partnered up at number one doubles and were also team captains," Bethany coach Tony Swiantek. "The work ethic they put in daily has made them some of the top players in the country.”
