DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Bethany College’s men’s golf team, in its final competition under the guidance of retiring coach Jon Daniels, got off to a slow start Tuesday in the NAIA National Championships, but it wasn’t because of Jose Acevedo.
The Swede standout shot a 2-over-par 74 at the LPGA International Hills Course to reside in 36th place.
The Swedes had a team total of 306, which is 18-over-par and good for 20th place. The second round was scheduled for today.
Ben Johnson and Josef Loughlin fired 77s for the Swedes, one stroke better than teammate Olly Rubenstein.
Josh Meeks rounded out the Swedes’ scores with an 81.
William Woods and Coastal Georgia are leading the way after the first round with totals of 282 (-6). Wayland Baptist shot a 287 and is in third place. Texas Wesleyan was even par for the round, 288, and Oklahoma City finished the day in fifth place at 1-over-par with a total of 289.
