MHS swimmers taking big contingent to state

The final consideration times are in and McPherson High’s girls swimming team has learned its fate.

Needless to say the Bullpups will be very busy Friday and Saturday in the Class 5-1A Swimming and Diving Championships at Topeka at the Hummer Sports Complex.

The Bullpups will be competing in nine events, with the opportunity to qualify both relay teams or individuals for the finals (top eight) and consolations (next eight).

MHS has experienced a wonderful year under the guidance of enthusiastic first-year coach Abby Bradstreet, who has not only sustained the program, but built on it.

“I am so excited for this meet as this is what these girls have worked so hard for all season long,” Bradstreet said. “It is also exciting to see that we will have at least one person swimming in all but two events. I am so proud of these girls and everything they have accomplished. We have put in the work and know we are ready for state, so now all we have to do is have fun. I am anxious to see how the girls do and am very confident that we will be swimming in the finals on Saturday.”

The Bullpups’ best chance to make the Top 8, according to Bradstreet, is the 200 freestyle relay team of Ellen Yowell, Megan Cutting, Kellsie Corrigan and Katie Wurm. They are ranked No. 7 going into the meet and if they can hold that spot, they would make the championship finals.

Cutting and Wurm also have chances individually as they rank high enough to be contenders.

Here are the MHS entrants and where they stand in relation to the rest of the field:
