Swather thinclads fare well at regional

GARDEN PLAIN — The Hesston girls finished second and the Swather boys tied for second during Thursday’s Class 3A track and field regional, but in the process the team has qualified a nice contingent of performers for next week’s state meet at Wichita State.

The Hesston girls scored 66 points to finish just behind the 71 scored by the host Owls. Wichita Collegiate scored 126 on the boys’ side, with Hesston and Chaparral scoring 56 to tie for second.

Here are the events the Swathers have qualified in:

• GIRLS •

3200 — Mikala Heddin

4 x 100 relay 

400 — Alaina Dunlavy

300 hurdles — Jessanna Nebel

Long jump — Olivia Brubacher

Pole vault — Kylie Klassen

200 — Taylor Valdez

4 x 400 relay

Javelin — Caylee Richardson

4 x 800 relay

Triple jump — Justin Smith

4 x 400 relay

High jump — Scott Duerksen

4 x 800 relay

Long jump — Justin Smith

800 — Austin Bollinger, Jonathan Weber
