McPherson High’s baseball team will open with Ottawa in Thursday’s featured game of the Class 4A Division I State Tournament at Salina’s Dean Evans Stadium.

The Bullpups (15-7) take on the Cyclones (16-5) in the final game of the day at 6:30. A victory and MHS would play either Fort Scott (17-4) or Rose Hill (15-7) at 1:30 p.m. Friday. MHS and Rose Hill met earlier this year, with the Bullpups sweeping the doubleheader at Grant Complex.

MHS is on the opposite side of the bracket of heavy favorite Topeka Hayden (21-1), which plays surprise entry Miege (10-12) in the first game on Thursday. That’s followed by Augusta (16-6, with two wins over MHS) against Kansas City Piper (14-6).

Friday’s semifinals are scheduled for 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. The third-place game is at 4:00, with the championship game at 6:30.
