HOLCOMB — McPherson High’s Chris Stoppel will be among the top sprinters at the Class 4A State Track and Field Championships next week.
Stoppel grabbed a pair of golds on Friday during the lengthy regional meet, running 10.8 in the 100 and 22.0 in the 200. He was a Top 3 finisher at state last year in those events.
The Bullpups won’t be taking a lot of performers, but they do have some quality.
Spenser Wine and Klayton Goering advanced in the 110 hurdles with a third and fourth, respectively, while Andric McGill moved on with a fourth in the high jump. The 4 x 100 relay team of Stoppel, Dylan Shook, Oscar Westerblom and Taylor Kynaston will compete as well.
The girls had a lot of near-misses, but also some makes. Bri Cooks won the shot put, while also moving on were defending state long jump champion Amy Suenram, high jumper Megan Pedersen and triple jumper Elle Barrett. The 4 x 100 relay team of Barrett, Kamryn Collins, Rilynn Anderson and Laynie Moore snared third place to advance.
Smoky Valley also was at Holcomb. Calvin Shannon (1,600 and 3,200), Sophia Peterson (800) and Amanda Behenna (100) were able to get in, along with the girls 4 x 800 relay team of Peterson, Kate Deterding, Paige Talbott and Allison Rose.
