WINFIELD — Dave Denly, one of the most successful women’s basketball coaches in KCAC history, is leaving Southwestern College after 17 years.

Denly, who also was the school’s athletic director, is heading to Bellevue University in Nebraska to start the women’s program at the school. Bellevue has had one of the top men’s programs in the country for many years and was a member of the MCAC along with Central Christian College until the conference disbanded this month.

Denly was 348-171 at Southwestern and the team had won at least 20 games for seven straight years. The Moundbuilders were a model of consistency, never finishing below fourth place during his entire tenure.

Southwestern had competed in the NAIA National Tournament the past five years.
