SALINA — In a bit of irony, the schools McPherson High’s softball team started and ended their season with met for the Class 4A Division I state championship today.

Augusta, which MHS split with in a pair of one-run games to open its season, was a 7-1 winner over Andale-Garden Plain in the finals at Bill Burke Complex.

McPherson’s season ended with a 3-2 loss to Andale in the regional finals.

Augusta thus repeated as state champion, as it defeated the Bullpups for the title last year.

Augusta is a member of AVCTL Division III, while Andale is in Division IV. In another bit of irony, Augusta wasn't even the league champion, as that honor went to Winfield.
