It was an absolute rocket.

Jacki Martinek’s scorching laser to the upper right post in the 93rd minute here Friday gave Topeka Hayden a dramatic 1-0 double-overtime victory over Bishop Miege in the semifinals of the Class 4-1A Girls State Soccer Tournament.

Topeka Hayden, now 15-5, will take on hometown heroes McPherson at 2 p.m. Saturday on the Bullpups’ home pitch. The Bullpups had advanced earlier in the evening with a 2-0 triumph over De Soto.

Even though there was no scoring in regulation and the first overtime, it was a wildly entertaining game featuring a lot of near-misses. Miege goalie Zoey Slettehaugh was acrobatic as was Hayden’s Ravel Lawlor. They combined for 16 saves as both teams let it fly early and often.

Miege, also 15-5, plays DeSoto at noon for third place.
