George Leary of Newton's Santa Fe Middle School has been chosen as the new Moundridge superintendent of schools.
“He's been in education a long time, he's been in one location a long time, which shows continuity,” Dr. Paul Ullom-Minnick, Moundridge school board president, said. “He's been administrator at a building that's roughly the size of our district, so he's had those kind of responsibilities as far as dealing with personnel, dealing with students at an organization that's roughly the size of our district.”
Ullom-Minnick noted that Leary also has experience with raising bonds, which is something the USD 423 board will be looking into in the next year or so.
Leary takes the place of Chad Higgins, who is moving down to the Maize school district. For Higgins, the move will be a little bittersweet.
“I would not have left except to just to go to another great district and another great community,” Higgins said. “[Moundridge] is just a great community.”
Leary will start with Moundridge July first.
