Santa Ana College transfer Bereniz Velazquez is expected to provide an immediate impact for the McPherson College women’s soccer team after signing a letter of intent.

She is a center-midfielder.

"We are very pleased to welcome Bereniz to the McPherson family," McPherson College coach Doug Quint said. "She is a very experienced and technical midfielder who will strengthen us in the middle. We look for good things from her."

Velazquez is from Orange, Calif, where she was a four-year letterwinner at Tustin High School and coach Jim Gross. She was well honored, including Offensive Player of the Year in 2007, Midfielder of the Year in 2008 and 2009, and Most Valuable Player in 2010 and first-Team All Centery League in 2009 and 2010.

At Santa Ana, Velazquez was the captain for coach Jaymie Baquero’s Dons. She has also been a member of Tustin United, a club team under coach Scott Mazuria.

She is the daughter of Leo and Maria Velazquez and will major in kinesiology at McPherson.
