Marion Reservior is among five Kansas lakes that are under warnings for blue-green algae.
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment released an updated listing of state lakes currently plagued by the bacteria. Along with Marion Reservoir are Chisholm State Park Lake in Sedgwick County, Lovewell State Park Lake in Jewell County, Memorial Park Lake in Barton County and Norton Lake in Norton County.
Lakes under a blue-green algae warning are not closed, but the public is asked to avoid direct contact with lake water. Boating and fishing are still safe and it is safe to eat fish caught during an outbreak, as long as the fish is rinsed with clean water. You should only consume the fillet portion and discard all other parts.
