McPherson city commission fills two planning commission seats, one still at-large

Two of the three vacant spots on the McPherson City Planning Commission were filled following action taken Monday morning by the city commission.

Commissioners approved the appointments of James Melland and Richard Martin to the board to fill the spots vacated by commission chair Donna Lehner and Michelle Pyle. Streets and Utilities Commissioner Larry Weins feels both Melland and Martin will be valuable additions to the planning commission.

“James Melland, he has his own business and he also sells real estate,” Weins said. “Richard Martin has opened here in McPherson, The Village Geek.”

The third position, which had been held by Duane Kleinsorge, is proving a little more problematic to fill.

“I've been in contact with two or three people,” Weins said. “Everybody so far has gone, if you'd have contacted me two weeks earlier, I would have taken it. I don't think we're that far away, but we do need some help. So, if anybody has some information, I would appreciate them giving me names.”

That particular planning commission position extends to a three-mile radius outside of the City of McPherson.

Nominations for the planning commission can be directed to the city offices at 245-2535.
