BONNER SPRINGS — It was a feel-good weekend for McPherson’s Senior American Legion baseball team.
The Seniors went 3-0 against a young Bonner Springs team that was coached by former McPherson players and brothers, Andrew and Adam Loecker.
All three victories came via the run rule, though scores were not available.
“It was a fun weekend,” said McPherson coach Tony Schmidt, whose team is now 7-3 on the year. “I have a lot of respect for them (the Loecker brothers). They’re a younger team and not quite as far along as we are.”
Schmidt said nearly every player on the roster took the mound during the weekend, with Jack Reifschneider and Cody Starkel particularly impressive.
“They really threw well. We threw a lot of guys,” Schmidt said. “We played guys at several positions. It was just a fun time.”
He added that the team did a good job of adjusting to a slower speed of pitching, probably the best it had all year.
McPherson plays Tuesday at Salina.
