Light Capital Ball Diamonds could be under new ownership very soon.

The current rental agreement with McPherson College is up June 30, and the City of McPherson put out feelers to both Mac and Central Christian Colleges to gage the interest from either school buying the diamond from the city outright or entering into a long term lease.

City Administrator Nick Gregory reported that, after receiving bids back, the recommendation is to sell the stadium to Central Christian.

“There was a fairly major discrepancy between the two prices that were put out for it,” Gregory said. “As you remember, we had an appraisal done on the piece of property; if it was going to be an empty piece of property, the cost it would have taken to demolish the entire site and the cost as a current ball field.”

The commission was presented with a draft agreement with the college, which included a clause that required Central to work out a scheduling agreement with McPherson College so that both would still be able to use the field.

The commission hopes to have a final agreement in place by July 1.
