WICHITA  — Former McPherson College athletic trainer Robin Johnson has been named KCAC Athletic Trainer of the Year, according to a conference press release.

Johnson was at McPherson College for two years before moving on to Friends, where he has spent 15 years.

Johnson will be formally recognized at the Sport Management Conference on Aug. 4 at Tabor College in Hillsboro.

"We are extremely happy for Robin as he is very deserving of this honor," Friends Athletic Director Joe Zimmerman said. "Given his commitment to students, along with his quality skills, we are fortunate to have someone of his caliber providing the medical and wellness needs for our student-athletes. Robin is an individual who has earned tremendous respect not only in the Friends University community, but externally as well. For him to be recognized through this award is an example of how much he is valued and appreciated by Friends University and his peers."

"Robin Johnson has been instrumental in seeing all phases of athletic training grow and blossom over the past decade in the conference," KCAC Commissioner Scott Crawford said. "His many contributions as the chair over the Athletic Trainers in the conference have not gone unnoticed by his peers and colleagues inside and outside the conference.  I thank him personally for raising the bar of expectations for the KCAC when it comes to the care and welfare of our student-athletes."
