The McPherson couple accused of being in the country illegally have pled not guilty to the charges against them.

Satishkumar Patel, 47, and Daxaben Patel, 36, both were arraigned Wednesday in the U.S. District Court in Wichita, with both entering pleas of not guilty. The Patels are facing a number of felony charges related to their ownership of the Route 56 Express in McPherson, including bank fraud, and making false claims of U.S. Citizenship.

The pair are free after posting $10,000 bond following their initial hearing last week. A further court date for the couple will be set in the future.

The U.S. Attorney's office is seeking criminal forfeiture of money and property related to the alleged crimes, in addition to the possibility of prison time in excess of 35 years.

Satishkumar Patel is facing 35 total charges, while Daxaben Patel has 18 counts against her.
