Blue-green algae could put a damper on Fourth of July plans.
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment announced Thursday that six state lakes are under a warning from the toxic algae, including Marion Reservior.
When a warning is issued, the KDHE recommends that you avoid contact with the water as much as feasible. Lake water is not safe for pets and livestock to drink and you should wash yourself with clean water as quickly as possible should you come into contact with infected lake water.
Other lakes under a blue-green algae warning this Independence Day weekend include Brown County State Fishing Lake, Chisholm Creek Park Lake in Sedgwick County, Lovewell Reservoir in Jewell County, Memorial Park Lake in Barton County and Webster Lake in Rooks County.
