Kurt Kinnamon is used to coaching his son Kyler, but this weekend he found himself coaching against him.

The Bulldogs, a basketball team that consisted of incoming McPherson College freshmen plus Kyler Kinnamon and Salina Central’s Jordan McNelly, won 11-12th division of the McPherson College MAYB Tournament on Sunday at the Sport Center.

They defeated Kurt Kinnamon’s future McPherson High team in the finals, rallying from a double-digit deficit.

McPherson High, however, won the 8-9-10th division by defeating Republic County in the championship game.

In the 6-7th boys division, the Wichita Wizards were the champion by defeating the Reno County Elite, while in the 6-7th girls division, the Aftershock triumphed by defeating the Lady Indians.

“Considering it was Fourth of July weekend, I thought we had a great turnout for teams,” tourney chairman Tim Swartzendruber said. “A team from South Dakota and team from Iowa made the 11-12 boys division interesting.  The top four teams in that division were very competitive."
