The Fourth of July holiday weekend was a good one, at least as far as McPherson emergency services are concerned.
McPherson fire chief Jeff Deal reported only two cases that resulted in very minimal damage, with only one reported firework injury as of Monday morning between July 2-4, when it was legal in McPherson to set off fireworks.
“The citizens of this community just do an excellent job of being respectful and responsible with their fireworks,” Deal said. “We've made a really considered effort to try to educate the public and I've think they've done a really good job. All the fireworks stands have complied, as well.”
McPherson County Dispatch logs showed that McPherson Police officers responded to 15 complaints about fireworks between July 2-5.
