(STO #37 and KSA 8-1565 (tinyurl.com/nufkb2s))

Loose meaning: This statute is worded in a way which prohibits essentially all possibilities of any kind of racing on any street in the City of McPherson.

Competitions, contests, tests, and exhibitions are each named specifically, either with another vehicle or the rapid increase in speed of a single vehicle. As with any traffic law, safety is the number one objective. The possibility of losing control increases with speed which puts every occupant of the vehicle and every person in the area at risk of harm, great bodily injury, or even death.

In McPherson, racing on roadways is a moving violation which results in a fine of $75 and $75 court costs.

The “Traffic Stop” appears on Tuesdays to address topics of traffic enforcement in the City of McPherson. The Traffic Section of Patrol Bureau organizes the “Traffic Stop” and welcomes suggestions on topics to address.

Please private message the McPherson Police Department your traffic enforcement questions unrelated to the current topic. Call us if any question requires an immediate answer on our non-emergency line: (620)245-1200.
