LAWRENCE — McPherson City Golf champion Treg Fawl has again qualified for the Kansas Amateur Championships.

Fawl, who has won the last five City titles, tied for 12th during a qualifier held earlier this week at Alvamar Golf Course in Lawrence. Fifteen golfers advanced.

Fawl shot rounds of 39-38 for a 77. He had an early double-bogey and was 4-over-par after seven holes. He birdied the 8th and parred No. 9 to finish the side with a 39.

He was 2-over on the back, with three bogeys and a birdie. That put him in a playoff and he was able to survive and advance.

The Kansas Amateur is scheduled for July 20-26 at Wichita Country Club.

Central Christian College sophomore-to-be Keith Cheuvront missed the qualifying mark after shooting an 88. He had rounds of 42-46, with his round derailed by a triple-and double-bogey.
