Young Bullpup cagers hold their own

HUTCHINSON — Perhaps the long-range future of McPherson boys basketball was on display over the weekend.

A group of McPherson 1st-, 2nd- and 3rd-graders competed in the 3rd-4th-grade division of the Hutchinson MAYB Tournament and more than held its own, going 3-3.

The only losses were to fourth-grade teams.

A summary:

• Macksville 4th grade 40, McPherson 31 — Gabe Pyle topped the scoring with 14 points.

• McPherson 62, Hays 3rd grade 9 — Everybody got into the scoring act, including Owen Pyle with 13, Kreighton Kanitz with 12, Alex Robertson with 11 and Blase Hoover with 10.

• SES Swish 4th grade 41, McPherson 19 — The scoring was balanced with Owen Pyle topping the chart with six.

• McPherson 30, Wichita Defenders 3rd grade 16 — Corey Muehler, Gabe Pyle and Owen Pyle all scored seven points.

• Macksville 4th grade 51, McPherson 29 — Owen Pyle tallied nine points.

• McPherson 32, Wichita Defenders 3rd grade 13 — Muehler’s 10 points led the way.

• Game 1 (31) — G. Pyle 14, O. Pyle 7, Muehler 4, Robertson 4, Hoover 2.

• Game 2 (62) — O. Pyle 13, Kanitz 12, Robertson 11, Hoover 10, Muehler 6, Alexander 4, G. Pyle 4, Romero 2.

• Game 3 (19) — O. Pyle 6, Hoover 4, Robertson 4, Kanitz 3, Muehler 2.

• Game 4 (30) — Muehler 7, G. Pyle 7, O. Pyle 7, Robertson 5, Alexander 2, Hoover 2.

• Game 5 (29) — O. Pyle 9, Robertson 5, Kanitz 5, Romero 4, J. Pyle 2, Muehler 2, G. Pyle 2.

• Game 6 (32) — Muehler 10, O. Pyle 7, G. Pyle 5, Kanitz 4, Robertson 3, Hoover 2, Romero 1.
