KANSAS CITY — Fans of the Kansas City Chiefs can now relax.

Star linebacker Justin Houston has agreed to a six-year, id="mce_marker"01 million contract. Today was the deadline to get a deal done as the two sides were able to get in under the wire.

Houston took to Twitter today to confirm his signing.

“Blessed to sign contract with the KC Chiefs. Thanks to my family #1 & my agents Joel Segal & @gbo74 for the awesome contract! Also Thanks & great appreciation to Mr. Hunt, Coach Reid, John Dorsey and of course the best fans of the NFL.”

Houston becomes the highest-paid player in Kansas City history and the second-highest paid defensive player in the NFL, exceeded only by Miami’s Ndamukong Suh.

Also, it’s the most money ever given to a linebacker.

In the deal, Houston is guaranteed $52.5 million. He led the NFL in sacks last year with 22, a half-sack shy of Michael Strahan’s 2001 record.
