The Wichita Eagle is reporting this afternoon that the Hutchinson Community College women’s basketball program was hit hard with sanctions by the NJCAA and Jayhawk Conference.
According to the NJCAA, Hutchinson gave two players excess benefits during the 2014-15 season that exceeded their scholarships.
The penalties include the reduction of scholarships from 15 to 11 for next season and from 15 to 13 for the following season.
The Jayhawk Conference really hit the Blue Dragons hard, forcing them to forfeit all their victories of last season and their conference championship. Additionally, the Blue Dragons are on probation for the upcoming season and can not compete in postseason play. They have been second in the nation three of the last four years.
According to The Eagle, Hutchinson president Carter File said the team would contest the sanctions levied by the conference.
