McPherson College put the “student” in the term student-athlete during the 2014-15 school year.
Nine McPherson College teams earned NAIA scholar honors, according to an announcement made Wednesday.
The teams included women's tennis, volleyball, women’s and men's soccer, softball, women's cross country, women's indoor track & field, women's outdoor track & field and men's outdoor track & field.
The KCAC champion women's tennis team posted a McPherson College-best 3.47 team GPA and was followed closely by the volleyball team at 3.41. The softball team posted a 3.35, while women's cross country pulled in a 3.20. Both the indoor and outdoor track & field teams made the list at 3.11 and 3.02, respectively. The women's soccer team rounds out the list of female sports for McPherson at 3.07.
The leader for the men was the KCAC champion men's soccer team as it accumulated a 3.41 GPA. The men's outdoor track & field team was the only other male team to earn NAIA Scholar-Team status.
For a team to be considered for the NAIA Scholar-Team award, it must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) as defined by the institution. The team grade point average includes all eligible varsity student-athletes.
