WICHITA — McPherson’s Treg Fawl knows all about charges.
Fawl had to charge back last month to win his fifth straight McPherson City Golf championship, overcoming a three-shot deficit on the final day.
On Tuesday in the opening round of the Kansas Amateur at Wichita Country Club, Fawl shot a 76 to put himself in danger of missing the cut line.
He charged back Wednesday with a 69 to qualify for match play.
This morning, he found himself 3-down after the first seven holes of his match against Topeka’s Andrew Beckler, who won four holes to Fawl’s one. But Fawl came back with birdies on his final two holes of the front nine to slice the deficit to one in this roller-coaster match.
Fawl shot a 36 for his nine holes and Beckler a 35. Updates will continue through the day.
