SALINA — Doniphan County’s Wyatt Huss finally ran out of pitches.
Post 55’s ironman gave up five second-inning runs to Arkansas City this afternoon in the second inning of the championship game of the Class A American Legion State Tournament and the Grays went on to a 9-1 run-rule victory over Post 55.
Huss threw more than 130 pitches against McPherson on Tuesday, then tossed two more innings of relief on Thursday and crafted a complete-game, 59-pitch shutout earlier today in his second matchup with McPherson.
He then was sent out to start the championship game, but the Grays jumped all over him and Huss also walked four after not walking a batter in his first game today.
Arkansas City thus completed a 4-0 run through the tournament and in three of the games it allowed one or no runs. Only against McPherson, where it overcame a 7-2 deficit for an 8-7 victory, was it ever pushed.
