WICHITA — McPherson College’s men’s basketball team had a great shot at its first conference win of the season on Wednesday, but the Friends Falcons used a late 13-0 run to pull out an 81-72 victory.

The loss dropped Mac to 0-6 in the KCAC and 1-10 overall and it was the ninth setback in a row.

The Bulldogs led 31-29 at the half and used a 12-2 run in the second half to gain momentum before Friends stormed back for the victory.

Aaron Bachura had a breakout game for the Bulldogs with 30 points and made six 3-pointers. Grant Munsen had a solid game with 14 points.

Jordan Murdock, the KCAC’s leading scorer, tossed in 26 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead the Falcons. EJ Garnes had 22 points and 8 assists, but also committed 10 turnovers as the Bulldogs ramped up the pressure to force 22 in the game.

The Bulldogs are home Saturday to take on Ottawa. Take note of the special 5 p.m. game time.

• FRIENDS WOMEN 53, MAC 52 — The Bulldogs came oh so close to knocking off the defending KCAC champions as they lost despite having a stretch where they held Friends without a field goal for 14 minutes.

The loss evened Mac’s KCAC record at 3-3 and it is 7-4 overall after its second straight loss.

Throw out the first quarter and this game belonged to the Bulldogs. Mac was outscored 27-14 in the first period, but amazingly held Friends to just 2 points in the second quarter.

Both teams were cold from the field. Mac was 22 of 59, just 2 of 13 from 3-point. Where it lost the game was the foul line, making just 6 of 18.

Brooklyn Coe led the Bulldogs with 10 points.
