HUTCHINSON — McPherson’s ninth-grade boys more than doubled Campus 63-30 on Monday to open play in the annual Hutchinson Invitational.
Adam Elliott stayed on fire by pouring in 24 points. Aaron Powell scored 12 and Jayton Alexander added 11 to aid the cause, with Eli Pyle just missing doubles with 9.
“Always good to win the first game of the tournament,” MHS coach Treg Fawl said. “It’s always the toughest, but our guys came out ready to play from the tip. We shared the ball well on offense and made some shots. Defensively we were really good all night. We were outsized, but we won the battle on the glass and 50-50 balls.”
MHS plays Derby in the semifinals on Thursday, not to mention games tonight and Friday at Winfield and Buhler, respectively.
Mac (63) — Elliott 24, Powell 12, Alexander 11, Pyle 9, Gerbrandt 4, Labertew 3.
